One day in 1998, a
young musician from a classical music background made an abrupt decision.
Against a backdrop of a lifelong love of motown and stax soul and Brian Wilson,
and having just experienced the rise and fall of 90s Britpop, Carl Nanders
decided to undertake an experiment in modernism and formed Aceface.
In its first years of
existence, Aceface underwent many changes, seeking the perfect balance of
personalities as well that elusive goal: a sound that could capture the raw
energy and fascination of the era, while remaining relevant to now. After many
shows and much change, Aceface recorded and released the Amazing Dementia EP in
2000, later picked up by Neil Leyton's Fading Ways Records, and began honing
their skills as a live act, playing anywhere and everywhere they could.
By 2003, the
permanent lineup of Nanders (vox, guitars), Freek Siezenga (guitars), Matthew
Leaker (bass), Mike Anderson (keys, organs and backing vox), and Gregary Lyons
(drums) was established, and Aceface went back into studio to record their
maturing sound on ThreatLevel:RedWhiteBlue, released on Fading Ways in 2004,
followed by a UK tour.
After ThreatLevel,
Aceface took some time out to rest and reexamine their sound, and have returned
with 2008's self-titled EP, due to be released on Fading Ways Canada on
February 23rd, leaner and meaner and happy to be back on stage!
